Weekday Vegetarian – The Middle Way and why it is important
I decided to open with the following video.
The concept in this video is praised by some, ridiculed by others and is considered out right outrageous by many.
But watch the video first and then read my thoughts on it after.
Even though this website is by a vegan and for vegans, it is not only for vegans because i believe promoting vegetarianism in general is important. and the reason i think that this video is great is that as much as preaching to the choir is fun, it doesn’t really make a lot of difference.
Many vegans i know are Vegans and not Vegetarians for humanitarian reasons more than the many other reasons. and even though vegan is of the strictest forms of vegetarianism, i hold the belief that if we think of more than our own health and truly consider animal rights and the environment, this leads us to not only live this way but promote this way of life.
and if that is the case, getting as much progress as possible is more important than trying to achieve the absolute ideal right off the bat.
This middle way is a lot easier for some to digest, both literally and figuratively, and just like Graham Hill, there are plenty of people who know the importance of it but have a hard time making what feels like and often times is such a drastic change.
Every step closer is better. i don’t subscribe to the belief that it is all or nothing, at least not for everyone. so a step like this can have a tremendous effect.
What do you think? does this make sense to you? is this a whole new movement within vegetarianism?
- Graham Hill is the creator of TreeHugger.com and you can read his great post on the subject at Weekday Vegetarian
- The Video is from TED, probably one of my favorite websites with videos on the most cutting edge subjects by the people who are really on the forefront of development in all areas.
